Over a couple days in August 2017, a few friends and I hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to North Carolina, an area touched by the path of totality of the "Great American Eclipse."
Inspired by Cheryl Strayed's fantastic book Wild, and its equally compelling movie version, I hiked a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail near Palm Springs in 2015.
A short trek from Paris, the palace of Versailles and Marie Antoinette's château reflected the egocentric yet entrancing extravagance of the French monarchy before the revolution.
